Concluding Prayer – “LORD, WHERE ARE YOU NOW?”

Sending

I’d invite you to listen to this version of “O Sacred Head, Sore Wounded” either before or after listening to the service (interestingly, I couldn’t find the lyrics that matched this version specifically – so just sing along as best you can on your own!)

Palm Sunday on Zoom – April 5, 2020

We celebrated Palm Sunday with our own Palm Parade from the privacy of our homes. Rev. John began his Holy Week sermon series reprising a series he did in 2015 on the Theology of Rice and Lloyd Webber featuring the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. Today, he focused on their take on Palm Sunday and the song, Hosanna. You can watch the clip from the 1973 film version (Rev. John’s favourite) below and read the lyrics from the song too. The service follows… and we concluded today by listening to the King’s College Cambridge choir singing Ride On, Ride On in Majesty. Hosanna!

Here are the lyrics to Hosanna

Hosanna
Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna
Hey Sanna Hosanna
Hey JC, JC won’t you smile at me?
Sanna Hosanna
Hey Superstar

CAIAPHAS

Tell the rabble to be quiet, we anticipate a riot.
This common crowd, is much too loud.
Tell the mob who sing your song that they are fools and they are wrong.
They are a curse. They should disperse.

CROWD

Hosanna
Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna
Hey Sanna Hosanna
Hey JC, JC you’re alright by me
Sanna Hosanna
Hey Superstar

JESUS

Why waste your breath moaning at the crowd?
Nothing can be done to stop the shouting.
If every tongue were stilled
The noise would still continue.
The rocks and stone themselves would start to sing:

CROWD AND JESUS

Hosanna
Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna
Hey Sanna Hosanna

CROWD (alone)

Hey JC, JC won’t you fight for me?
Sanna Hosanna Hey Superstar

JESUS

Sing me your songs,
But not for me alone.
Sing out for yourselves,
For you are bless-ed.
There is not one of you
Who can not win the kingdom.
The slow, the suffering,
The quick, the dead.

CROWD and JESUS

Hosanna
Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna
Hey Sanna Hosanna

CROWD (alone)

Hey JC, JC won’t you die for me?
Sanna Hosanna Hey Superstar

Thursday Morning Bible Study IN THE EVENING!

As we continue our experiments during this truly uncharted territory, I thought I’d try an evening experience for our traditional Thursday Morning Bible Study. [Truth is that I also have another commitment this Thursday morning that actually survived all the cancellations of this current reality]. So, instead of cancelling outright, I thought I’d try out an evening experience.

So join us on Thursday April 2 at 7:00PM for a Bible conversation on Matthew 21: 1 – 11… Matthew’s take on the Palm Sunday story.

Here’s the ZOOM Meeting invitation. Look forward to sharing the conversation with you on Thursday evening.

St. Andrew’s WENT ZOOM – March 29, 2020

We had our SECOND ZOOM worship experience on Sunday with over 50 participants. Rev. John offered another spiritual practice for us to consider – Visio Divina (Divine Seeing). By using a photo, image, or just by looking around, one can seek to connect with the Divine and one’s deeper stirrings. Here’s the service if you want to review it again or watch for the first time:
